Kashrut and standards

Taken from the operator’s own website. A dashed outline means the operator hasn’t said, not that the answer is no.

Who is the supervisor?

The names below come from the operator. Each links to a page of what public sources say, with the sources.

Worth asking the operator

  • Who signs the kashrut certificate for this program, and can I see this year’s certificate?
  • How many years has he supervised this operator’s Pesach programs, and this hotel in particular?
  • Does an agency or beth din stand behind the certificate, or is it his personal hechsher?
  • Is he in the hotel for the whole of Yom Tov, and how many mashgichim work under him?

Ask before you book

The operator’s website doesn’t state these. If any matter to you, get the answer in writing:

  • Gebrokts or non-gebrokts
  • Cholov Yisroel
  • Glatt
  • Pas Yisroel
  • Shmura matzah
  • Separate swimming
  • Kitniyot policy

Standards can change from year to year. Confirm with the operator and your own rav.

Getting there

There is a nonstop flight from New York (JFK), about 2 hours in the air.

Atlanta (ATL) has nonstops from all nine hubs, including Tel Aviv, London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle.

Most guests fly into Atlanta and drive about two hours north into the mountains, or drive from the Atlanta area.

Routes come from each airport’s published route list, checked October 2026. Flight times are estimates from the distance. Airlines change schedules, so confirm before you book (route list we used).

From the airport

  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL): about 2.2 hours by carThe main airport for this program, with the widest choice of flights.
  • Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP): about 1.8 hours by carA smaller airport in South Carolina, slightly closer but with far fewer flights.

Driving instead

  • From Atlanta: about 2 hours
  • From Charlotte: about 3.25 hours

Late April weather

Cool mountain spring weather with days around 70°F (21°C) and nights near 45°F (7°C).

Good to know

  • You need a car; the retreat center is deep in the north Georgia mountains on winding roads.
  • Cell phone service can be weak in the mountains, so download maps before you set out.
  • Eastern time zone. Bring layers, since mornings and evenings are chilly.

Google’s star rating and reviews are for Ramah Darom Retreat Center all year round, not for the Pesach program.

Safety and travel advisories

What governments say about travel to this country. Nothing here is this site’s own judgment.

Safety information for the United States

The US State Department does not publish an advisory for its own country. Other governments do publish advice for visitors, and local police departments publish crime figures for their own cities.

This is the governments’ own wording, not a rating by this site. Israel’s National Security Council also publishes travel warnings for Israelis abroad. Ask the operator what security the program itself arranges, such as guards and entry checks.
