Hafikoman is a long-running Mexican family operator hosting Passover at the beachfront Westin in Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific coast. The site stresses a warm, friendly atmosphere, non-kitniyot food drawing on Ashkenazi, Sephardic, Israeli and Mexican cooking, and programs for babies, kids and teens. The operator's site still shows 2026 dates.

Kashrut and standards

Taken from the operator’s own website. A dashed outline means the operator hasn’t said, not that the answer is no.

Supervision
Not named on the operator’s website. Ask who gives the hechsher.
Who it suits
Families with children of all ages

Who is the supervisor?

The operator’s website does not name a rabbi or agency I could look up.

Worth asking the operator

  • Who signs the kashrut certificate for this program, and can I see this year’s certificate?
  • How many years has he supervised this operator’s Pesach programs, and this hotel in particular?
  • Does an agency or beth din stand behind the certificate, or is it his personal hechsher?
  • Is he in the hotel for the whole of Yom Tov, and how many mashgichim work under him?

Everyone named for kashrut supervision

Ask before you book

The operator’s website doesn’t state these. If any matter to you, get the answer in writing:

  • Gebrokts or non-gebrokts
  • Cholov Yisroel
  • Glatt
  • Pas Yisroel
  • Shmura matzah
  • Separate swimming

Standards can change from year to year. Confirm with the operator and your own rav.

Videos and social accounts

Getting there

We found no nonstop flight from New York (JFK) in late April, so plan on one connection. A nonstop would take about 5 hours; with a connection allow several hours more.

Newark, Los Angeles and Toronto are listed year-round. Chicago O'Hare is listed as seasonal (a winter-and-spring route), so check that it is still running in late April. No nonstops from New York JFK, Miami, Europe or Israel.

Most North American travelers fly nonstop from a large US or Canadian city, or connect once through a US hub such as Dallas, Houston or Los Angeles, or through Mexico City.

Routes come from each airport’s published route list, checked October 2026. Flight times are estimates from the distance. Airlines change schedules, so confirm before you book (route list we used).

From the airport

  • Puerto Vallarta International Airport (Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz) (PVR): about 8 minutes by carThe airport is right beside the Marina Vallarta area where the hotel sits.

Late April weather

Sunny and dry, with highs around 84°F (29°C) and nights near 64°F (18°C); the Pacific is about 75°F (24°C), fine for swimming.

Good to know

  • Puerto Vallarta is two hours behind New York in late April.
  • A car is not needed; taxis and ride-hailing are cheap and easy, and the marina boardwalk is next to the hotel.
  • The currency is the Mexican peso, though US dollars and cards are widely accepted.
  • US passport holders do not need a visa for a vacation stay; other passports should check entry rules.

Google’s star rating and reviews are for The Westin Resort & Spa, Puerto Vallarta all year round, not for the Pesach program.

Safety and travel advisories

What governments say about travel to this country. Nothing here is this site’s own judgment.

US State Department travel advisory for Mexico

Level 2 of 4: Exercise increased caution

  • Reasons the advisory gives: terrorism, crime, and kidnapping.
  • The advisory treats some parts of the country differently. Read it for the area you are going to.
  • The level is for the whole country, not for the hotel or its neighborhood. Level 1 is the lowest of the four and Level 4 the highest.
  • Advisory dated May 28, 2026; I read it on October 4, 2026. Levels change, so open the advisory before you book and again before you fly.

This is the governments’ own wording, not a rating by this site. Israel’s National Security Council also publishes travel warnings for Israelis abroad. Ask the operator what security the program itself arranges, such as guards and entry checks.
