Getting there

There is a nonstop flight from New York (JFK), about 8.5 hours in the air.

Venice Marco Polo has nonstops from New York JFK, London (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton), Paris (Charles de Gaulle and Orly) and Tel Aviv. Newark and Toronto flights are summer-seasonal and may not have started by late April.

Most North American travelers fly to Venice, either nonstop from New York or through a European hub, and drive about 40 minutes.

Routes come from each airport’s published route list, checked October 2026. Flight times are estimates from the distance. Airlines change schedules, so confirm before you book (route list we used).

From the airport

  • Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE): about 40 minutes by carAbout 40 minutes by car.
  • Treviso Airport (TSF): about 50 minutes by carSmall airport used by low-cost European airlines, about 50 minutes away.

Late April weather

Daytime highs are around 64°F (18°C) and nights around 50°F (10°C); the Adriatic is about 57°F (14°C), too cold for swimming.

Good to know

  • Italy is 6 hours ahead of New York, and the currency is the euro.
  • A car is handy for the airport and day trips, but you reach Venice itself by boat.
  • Late April is before beach season, so some seafront businesses may still be closed.
  • US and Canadian passport holders can visit Italy for up to 90 days without a visa; check whether the new European ETIAS travel authorization is required by the time you fly.

Safety and travel advisories

What governments say about travel to this country. Nothing here is this site’s own judgment.

US State Department travel advisory for Italy

Level 2 of 4: Exercise increased caution

  • Reasons the advisory gives: terrorism.
  • The level is for the whole country, not for the hotel or its neighborhood. Level 1 is the lowest of the four and Level 4 the highest.
  • Advisory dated September 9, 2026; I read it on October 4, 2026. Levels change, so open the advisory before you book and again before you fly.

This is the governments’ own wording, not a rating by this site. Israel’s National Security Council also publishes travel warnings for Israelis abroad. Ask the operator what security the program itself arranges, such as guards and entry checks.
