Pesach in Kotor Bay (Kostanjica), Montenegro

Getting there

We found no nonstop flight from New York (JFK) in late April, so plan on one connection. A nonstop would take about 9.5 hours; with a connection allow several hours more.

Tel Aviv is listed year-round into Tivat. London is listed year-round into Dubrovnik from Stansted; other London flights, Paris flights and the summer Newark flight into Dubrovnik are marked seasonal and may not have started by late April.

There are no nonstops from North America in April; travelers usually connect once in a large European hub and fly into Tivat, Dubrovnik or Podgorica.

Routes come from each airport’s published route list, checked October 2026. Flight times are estimates from the distance. Airlines change schedules, so confirm before you book (route list we used).

From the airport

  • Tivat Airport (TIV): about 35 minutes by carThe closest airport; the drive uses the short car ferry across the narrowest part of the bay.
  • Dubrovnik Airport, Croatia (DBV): about 75 minutes by carAcross the border in Croatia, with more flights; allow extra time for the border crossing.

Late April weather

Mild spring weather, with highs around 66°F (19°C) and nights near 50°F (10°C), and fairly frequent rain; the bay is about 61°F (16°C), too cold for most swimmers.

Good to know

  • Montenegro is six hours ahead of New York.
  • The currency is the euro, even though Montenegro is not in the European Union.
  • US passport holders do not need a visa for a short visit; other passports should check entry rules.
  • A rental car is very useful, since the hotel is in a quiet village on the bay; bring your passport for a day trip to Dubrovnik, which crosses into Croatia.

Safety and travel advisories

What governments say about travel to this country. Nothing here is this site’s own judgment.

US State Department travel advisory for Montenegro

Level 1 of 4: Exercise normal precautions

  • The level is for the whole country, not for the hotel or its neighborhood. Level 1 is the lowest of the four and Level 4 the highest.
  • Advisory dated August 26, 2026; I read it on October 4, 2026. Levels change, so open the advisory before you book and again before you fly.

This is the governments’ own wording, not a rating by this site. Israel’s National Security Council also publishes travel warnings for Israelis abroad. Ask the operator what security the program itself arranges, such as guards and entry checks.
