Pesach in Ela Valley, Jerusalem Hills (near Beit Shemesh), Israel

Getting there

There is a nonstop flight from New York (JFK), about 11.5 hours in the air.

Wikipedia's Ben Gurion page lists nonstop flights from New York JFK, Newark, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago O'Hare, Toronto, London (Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick and Stansted) and Paris (Charles de Gaulle and Orly). A few airlines were shown as resuming service on set dates, so confirm schedules before booking.

Most North American travelers fly nonstop to Tel Aviv from the New York area or another major gateway, or connect through a European hub, and then drive or take a pre-booked transfer to the hotel.

Routes come from each airport’s published route list, checked October 2026. Flight times are estimates from the distance. Airlines change schedules, so confirm before you book (route list we used).

From the airport

  • Ben Gurion Airport (Tel Aviv) (TLV): about 40 minutes by carAbout 40 minutes by car to the Beit Shemesh and Ela Valley area.

Late April weather

Daytime highs are around 75°F (24°C) and nights around 55°F (13°C), usually dry and sunny.

Good to know

  • In Israel the holiday is seven days with one seder; visitors from abroad usually still keep the extra day, so ask your rabbi how that applies to you.
  • Israel is 7 hours ahead of New York in late April; US and Canadian passport holders do not need a visa for a short visit but must get an ETA-IL travel authorization online before flying.
  • You need a car here; the hotel is in the countryside with little public transport.
  • National parks and nature reserves get very busy on chol hamoed and many require booking a time slot online in advance.

Safety and travel advisories

What governments say about travel to this country. Nothing here is this site’s own judgment.

US State Department travel advisory for Israel

Level 3 of 4: Reconsider travel

  • The advisory treats some parts of the country differently. Read it for the area you are going to.
  • The level is for the whole country, not for the hotel or its neighborhood. Level 1 is the lowest of the four and Level 4 the highest.
  • Advisory dated August 25, 2026; I read it on October 4, 2026. Levels change, so open the advisory before you book and again before you fly.

This is the governments’ own wording, not a rating by this site. Israel’s National Security Council also publishes travel warnings for Israelis abroad. Ask the operator what security the program itself arranges, such as guards and entry checks.
