Getting there

There is a nonstop flight from New York (JFK), about 5.5 hours in the air.

Phoenix Sky Harbor lists year-round nonstops from New York JFK, Newark, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago O'Hare, London Heathrow and Paris; Toronto is listed as seasonal.

Most travelers fly into Phoenix and drive about 2.5 hours to Flagstaff, or connect in Phoenix or Dallas to the small Flagstaff airport.

Routes come from each airport’s published route list, checked October 2026. Flight times are estimates from the distance. Airlines change schedules, so confirm before you book (route list we used).

From the airport

  • Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX): about 2.5 hours by carThe main airport for most visitors; about a 2.5-hour drive north.
  • Flagstaff Pulliam Airport (FLG): about 10 minutes by carSmall local airport with connecting flights through Phoenix or Dallas.

Late April weather

Cool mountain weather at about 7,000 feet, with highs around 60°F (16°C) and nights near freezing, about 31°F (-1°C).

Good to know

  • Arizona does not change its clocks; in April it is three hours behind New York.
  • Flagstaff sits at about 7,000 feet, so pack layers and expect cold nights.
  • A car is needed for nearly all outings.

Safety and travel advisories

What governments say about travel to this country. Nothing here is this site’s own judgment.

Safety information for the United States

The US State Department does not publish an advisory for its own country. Other governments do publish advice for visitors, and local police departments publish crime figures for their own cities.

This is the governments’ own wording, not a rating by this site. Israel’s National Security Council also publishes travel warnings for Israelis abroad. Ask the operator what security the program itself arranges, such as guards and entry checks.
