Pesach in Akko (Acre), Israel

1 program here.

Programs here

Getting there

There is a nonstop flight from New York (JFK), about 11.5 hours in the air.

Ben Gurion has flights from New York JFK, Newark, Miami, Los Angeles, London (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton) and Paris (Charles de Gaulle and Orly). Chicago O'Hare and Toronto are listed as resuming in late 2026, so confirm those are running for your dates.

Most North American travelers fly nonstop to Tel Aviv from New York, Newark, Miami or Los Angeles, or connect through a European hub.

Routes come from each airport’s published route list, checked October 2026. Flight times are estimates from the distance. Airlines change schedules, so confirm before you book (route list we used).

From the airport

  • Ben Gurion Airport (TLV): about 1.5 hours by carIsrael's main international airport; trains also run from the airport to Akko.
  • Haifa Airport (HFA): about 25 minutes by carA small airport with a handful of short regional flights.

Late April weather

Daytime highs are around 75°F (24°C) and nights around 59°F (15°C); the sea is about 68°F (20°C), fine for a swim on a warm day.

Good to know

  • Israel is 7 hours ahead of New York, and the currency is the shekel.
  • The old city is walkable from the hotel area; a car helps for the Galilee, and the train reaches Haifa and Tel Aviv.
  • Chol hamoed is the busiest week of the year for Israeli attractions; many national parks need advance booking, and traffic is heavy.
  • US passport holders need to get an online travel approval (ETA-IL) before flying; check entry rules for your passport.

Safety and travel advisories

What governments say about travel to this country. Nothing here is this site’s own judgment.

US State Department travel advisory for Israel

Level 3 of 4: Reconsider travel

  • The advisory treats some parts of the country differently. Read it for the area you are going to.
  • The level is for the whole country, not for the hotel or its neighborhood. Level 1 is the lowest of the four and Level 4 the highest.
  • Advisory dated August 25, 2026; I read it on October 4, 2026. Levels change, so open the advisory before you book and again before you fly.

This is the governments’ own wording, not a rating by this site. Israel’s National Security Council also publishes travel warnings for Israelis abroad. Ask the operator what security the program itself arranges, such as guards and entry checks.
